One of my favorite memories from Baylor University was my first snow day as a student. I was in the intro to photography class and my professor, Curtis Callaway, encouraged us to think outside of the box and take risks with our pictures. I received an email saying that classes had been cancelled for the day, so I immediately grabbed my camera, beanie, rain boots and umbrella and jumped in my cute little red VW beetle and started driving (um…sliding) to campus. I didn’t know what I was taking pictures of, but I knew I would find something out of the box. Believe it or not, I stuffed the umbrella down the back of my shirt and started snapping shots. After shooting for about 20 minutes and losing the feeling in my fingers, I decided to head home. I grabbed this shot and it is still one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken.
Not only does it remind me of a place I love so dearly, it reminds me of the beginning of my business and how anxious I was to learn. I was always doing crazy things to get “THE shot” and always had my camera in hand. Even to this day, my friends and family leave their cameras at home because they know that I always have at least one camera with me! I can’t believe it has been 4 1/2 years since Lauren Guy Photography began!
Now, every time it snows/ices, I feel the urge to go outside and take pictures in the snow. Not only is it fun because the scenery is beautiful, but it brings back memories from the beginning of Lauren Guy Photography and my time at Baylor University. So in honor of this crazy ice storm, enjoy a few pictures of the results of “Icemegeddon 2013”.
